Pinch Pots

Project description:
In this project we will work with clay to make a pinch pot using our imaginations! There are options to create pots that resemble animals, fruits, monsters and more. We will work with clay to create the basic element and when clay is close to dry we will move on to other stations to create/add texture as well as possibly paint our pinch pots.

Essential Understanding:

Students will learn how to shape clay and other materials into cute, fun, functional pinch pots.

Objectives:

-Students will develop and understanding of 3D art

-Students will be able to differentiate 2D art and 3D art

-Students will be able to express themselves using clay, by making a imaginative pinch pot

-Students will develop a better understanding of clay and the function of clay

Skills:

1. Exploring clay as a medium

2. Refining fine motor skills

3. Expressing artistic ideas

4. Developing problem solving skills

We had a very successful first class. All of the students were engaged and enjoyed making their pinch pot creations. We also had some amazing conversations and got to know them all pretty well. We are looking forward to the next couple week and to see them grow as artists as well as making more connections. Before the class started everyone went around and introduced their names, favorite color, food and animal. This activity helped them generate ideas for what they might want their pinch pots to look like.

In this image he really liked making a pot and tried really hard to smooth out the bottom using a spray bottle of water and was very successful doing so. This student was engaged in using clay as a medium and problem solving.

"I want to make the whiskers ribbons." She really expressed an interest in making her art mixed media. She was really thinking towards the future with her process.

In this image Jim asked a teacher what they thought of his work and instead the teacher asked him what he thought of his work and he replies "I really like and I think I did good" and that is all that matters. It shows that he likes what he id doing and is learning that he doesn't always need confirmation.

She is putting the finishing touches of her sunflower pinch pot. She spent most of class generating ideas and sketching. She got to physically make her 2-D sketches into a 3-D sculpture. This student did a great job planning out what she was going to do then executing it.

This student started to create a birds nest after she finished creating a bird. She was pushed to create an addition because she was enjoying using clay as a medium.
